Year 9 & 10 VET Programs

ReadCloud's Year 9 and 10 VET programs introduce secondary school students to nationally recognised VET study in a short one to two term format. Designed to fit within existing school structures, these programs give students a taste of different industry areas, build foundational skills, and support more informed subject selection as they move into their senior years.

What are year 9 and 10 VET Programs?

Year 9 and 10 VET programs are short, structured introductions to vocational education and training, typically delivered over one semester at approximately 90 nominal hours. They sit comfortably within existing Year 9 and 10 elective offerings and give students the opportunity to explore an industry area before committing to a senior pathway. For schools, they are a practical way to build VET engagement early and strengthen student readiness for Years 11 and 12.

What are ReadCloudVET's Year 9 and 10 VET Programs?

ReadCloudVET's Year 9 and 10 VET Programs are short, school-delivered courses that give students hands-on experience in an industry area before they choose their senior pathway. Each program is a set of nationally recognised units of competency taken from a full qualification. Students build practical skills, try out different industries, and make more confident choices about VET in Years 11 and 12.

How long does a Year 9 and 10 VET Program take?

A Year 9 and 10 VET Program runs for one semester (90+ nominal hours) or two semesters (180+ nominal hours). Schools can offer a single semester as a taster, or combine two semesters for a deeper, full-year experience in one industry area.

Which VET Programs are available for Year 9 and 10 students?

ReadCloudVET offers example programs in seven industry areas:

  • Events (SIT30522 Certificate III in Events)
  • Workplace Skills (BSB20120 Certificate II in Workplace Skills)
  • Sport Coaching (SIS20321 Certificate II in Sport Coaching)
  • Small Business (22629VIC Certificate II in Small Business Operations and Innovation)
  • Creative Industries (CUA20225 Certificate II in Creative Industries)
  • ICT (ICT20120 Certificate II in Applied Digital Technologies)
  • Furnishing (MSF20522 Certificate II in Furniture Making Pathways)

Schools can also design a custom program from ReadCloudVET's wider range of qualifications.

Can Year 10 students complete a full VET qualification?

Yes, in some programs. Completing both semesters of the Workplace Skills or Sport Coaching program gives students the full BSB20120 Certificate II in Workplace Skills or SIS20321 Certificate II in Sport Coaching. In other programs, students receive a Statement of Attainment for the units they complete. They can then build on those units in their senior years.

Can our school design its own Year 9 and 10 VET Program?

Yes. The published programs are examples only. ReadCloudVET works with each school to design a program that suits its students, timetable, staff and facilities, choosing units from across the qualifications its three RTOs deliver.

What pathways are available after a Year 9 and 10 VET Program?

Each program leads into related senior qualifications, creating a clear pathway to further study. For example:

  • Workplace Skills and Small Business lead to BSB30120 Certificate III in Business.
  • Sport Coaching leads to SIS30122 Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation.
  • ICT leads to ICT30120 Certificate III in Information Technology.
  • Furnishing leads to construction, plumbing, engineering and electrotechnology pre-apprenticeships.
Why should our school offer a Year 9 and 10 VET Program?

A Year 9 and 10 VET Program turns career exploration into real, accredited learning. Students test-drive an industry, discover what suits them, and bank nationally recognised units that carry into their senior years. Schools gain a low-risk way to grow their VET offering, lift student engagement and give families clearer senior pathways, all delivered on campus with ReadCloudVET handling the materials and compliance.
